Mission Statement
Catholic Mobilizing Network is a national organization that mobilizes Catholics and all people of goodwill to value life over death, to end the use of the death penalty, to transform the U.S. criminal justice system from punitive to restorative, and to build capacity in U.S. society to engage in restorative practices. Through education, advocacy, and prayer, and based on the Gospel value that every human is created in the image and likeness of God, CMN expresses the fundamental belief that all those who have caused or been impacted by crime should be treated with dignity.
CMN works in close collaboration with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is a founding member of the Congregation of St. Joseph Mission Network.
What We Do
Education
At Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN), we believe that knowledge is key to transforming broken systems. That's why we offer innovative educational opportunities that foster a deep understanding of the Church's anti-death penalty teachings. We champion the Catholic call to healing practices like restorative justice and shed light on the flaws of our current criminal legal system.
Through our extensive range of resources, including award-winning books, toolkits, factsheets, podcasts, and more, we empower individuals to become agents of restoration in their communities. We host engaging educational events, including immersive workshops, skill-building trainings, timely webinars, and the renowned National Catholic Conference on Restorative Justice. By maintaining a consistent presence at national conferences and annual faith-based gatherings, we broaden our educational impact among those who share our commitment to justice.
Advocacy
CMN mobilizes Catholics and people of goodwill across the nation to actively oppose the death penalty by engaging in high-impact advocacy. We support and energize state and federal campaigns to repeal capital punishment, working tirelessly to build diverse coalitions that include Catholic bishops, dioceses, state Catholic conferences, religious communities, members of the laity, and secular repeal groups.
Our advocacy empowers people of faith to stand against upcoming executions and promote life-affirming approaches to justice. Through the power of media, we amplify the Church's teachings on these critical issues, leveraging its influence to maximize our impact. We firmly believe that by coalescing a strong, unified Catholic voice, we can advance forms of justice that promote human dignity, accountability, and healing.
Prayer
Our work is inseparable from our faith. Guided by Gospel wisdom and Catholic social teaching, CMN proclaims the transformative power of prayer in our mission to end the death penalty and promote restorative justice.
We offer powerful prayer opportunities and spiritual resources such as virtual vigils, faith formation guides, and liturgical reflections. It is through these acts of prayer that we seek solace for victims of violence, extend compassion to those on death row, and call for a legal system rooted in mercy and compassion.
