This 3.5-hour workshop is ideal for individuals who are new to restorative justice and restorative practices.

This virtual event will take place via Zoom conference. It will not be recorded.
This event is highly participatory. Attendees are asked to arrive on time and stay for the entirety of the event.

Participants will receive digital handouts and lists of suggested resources for continued learning. They will also receive a packet of materials including:

Goals & Learning Objectives
Through exercises, reflection, and sharing, “Intro to Restorative Justice” participants will:
LEARN about core principles of restorative justice and how they connect with Catholic teaching
HEAR stories of restorative practices being applied in Catholic parish and ministry settings
EXPERIENCE a restorative practice with fellow ministry leaders
REFLECT on opportunities for restorative approaches in their lives and ministries
Featured Presenter
Leonard Rubio serves as the Executive Director of Insight Prison Project.
He spent over 23 years incarcerated within California’s jail and prison system for a 15-year-to-life sentence for second degree murder.
While incarcerated at San Quentin, Leonard created the Responsibility, Rehabilitation, & Restoration Interfaith Roundtable to promote restorative justice by including prisoners and volunteers from many faith and ethnic backgrounds to work together. Leonard participated in numerous IPP programs as a participant and as co-facilitator for: Victim/Offender Education Group (VOEG), Next Step, the Violence Prevention Program, Violence Prevention Program Facilitator Training, and many others.
Leonard earned an Associate of Arts Degree in General Education from Patten University and created other opportunities for prisoners to further their education.
Since his release, he has married, earned a bachelor’s degree in both Finance and Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of San Francisco (USF), was awarded the USF Archbishop Oscar Romero Leadership Award, and continues to promote restorative justice through public speaking.
Leonard and his wife Aouie have been featured in USF Magazine Summer 2013 for their work in restorative justice.
Co-Facilitators
Caitlin Morneau serves as Director of Restorative Justice at Catholic Mobilizing Network. She was the lead adaptor for CMN’s faith formation guide, Harm, Healing and Human Dignity: A Catholic Encounter with Restorative Justice, and led the collaborative creation of Paths of Renewed Encounter: A Restorative Justice Engagement Guide for Catholic Communities. Caitlin holds an MA in Conflict Transformation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University and is trained in circle process and restorative community conferencing.
Lucie Martinot-Lagarde is CMN's Restorative Justice Program Manager. A native of France, she graduated with an MA in Conflict Transformation from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University, with a focus on trauma healing.
Lucie has experience living and working in cross-cultural and cross-denominational contexts, serving as a spiritual companion and circlekeeper, and supporting the implementation of restorative practices in public schools.
